Call it a bit of an open wound, and don’t poke it and we’ll be fine.
[ hmmm. ]
Kinda, I guess. Ordine can talk, has opinions and can offer advice. Pretty sure if he didn’t want to do what I was doing, he’d say so but…. there’s also an element of I’m his Awakener so he follows my lead. I’d call him a partner rather than a machine, y’know?
[but he's otherwise not the type to pry too much, respectful of crow's privacy]
Your partner... [more nodding, coupled with a bit of a laugh] It sounds like a nice relationship. I imagine that swords who feel very strongly about their masters must have the same kind of trust and care.
Man, if he was a sword my life would be simultaneously easier and harder at the same time. But still, he’s the closest thing I’ve got that fits how you keep describing blades — aware, can comment… do blades choose their master?
No, we don't. For most of our existence we've been the same as any other weapon. Forged and waiting... and then our masters will find us, and wield us until they pass in battle, or we're given away or broken.
Even now, our Aruji has summoned us in these bodies - but we did not pick them. Though I don't mind serving them either. It's what I was made for.
Even if you don't like your master, you still serve them?
...
Divine Knights pick who pilots them. Sure, there are limitations -- they can't say "you'll do" and have at it. You have to undergo trials for the right. But if you complete them, they you're good to go.
[ ... ] Maybe it's not so different. There are some real characters piloting Divine Knights.
Oh - Aruji's fine. He's kind, and even if I don't understand him, everything so far has been done for the sake of protecting human history. So as long as that's the case, I don't mind.
[buzen is a really obedient person by default,]
Hah! Are the Divine Knights your allies? Or are some your adversaries?
I'm a fairly relaxed person - I just like seeing people I care about happy and healthy, and... well, aside from a few growing pains, I think that's been successful.
Ah, I see - so it's a case of following their masters as well. May I ask what you fight for, Crow-san?
That feels like a philosophical question and a half. I just owe a lot of people, and I'm probably in a place now where I can start making things up to them. It's not alturistic, I get something out of it too. But they deserve that much.
I don't think you have to be altruistic. Not to mention it's hard to be, when you're in battle. [when you fight, you're inherently doing it for something you selfishly believe in - or it may just be for your own life, ahead of everyone else's.]
But if it's to repay debts, and to support those you care about - that's as good a reason as any.

... I won't ask about it if you don't want me to - but I'm glad you're you, Crow-san.
[buzen is the type of person to give a lot of space. he won't push. but at the same time, it's hard for him to ignore the bitterness and anger there.]
Mech...! That sounds... fancy. I'm having trouble even imagining it. Is it like a machine... with a soul?

[ a good boysword... ]
Depends on who's piloting them.

Mm. It's all I can really do, and I'm fine with that.

I think that it's fine to try to be - but I'm not saying everyone has to be at all times. Sometimes people just need to do what it takes to survive.

But I hope your battles are worthwhile, and perhaps even over soon.

Guess we'll find out. I doubt it'll take too long -- they're an efficient bunch.

I don't know anyone who's never caused any problems - whether by accident or otherwise. It keeps things interesting, doesn't it? Those surprises.
At least, that's what one of my former captains would say.

That mission was quite tough. But he's a great leader.
