Yeah. It's like... There's different ways I could approach it, right? I could try to ask people I think I get along with, or people who I think, logically, would make the best teammates. Or - people that might need the most help is an option, too. But all of that is assuming anyone I ask doesn't already have arrangements, or would agree. I already checked with someone who said no.
[briefly, but he'll also listen politely and attentively as she fusses!]
Whoa, someone already said no? That's fast for them to figure out stuff that quickly... I mean, all you can do is try your best, right? [a beat] Um, I say that, but to be honest, Matsu's more particular than I am so I'm kinda letting him choose our team...
[buzen really handed off the braincell to the other gou (which is fair, bc buzen would say yes to anybody and forget that teams can be a max of four wouldn't that be a mess,,)]
Oh, so it's like odd jobs? Or - well, I guess being a bodyguard is a little more serious than just an odd job...
[nods, thinking out loud]
Shenhe's the one who said no already - not because she already has a team, she said she wasn't interested in forming one. If I had my choice, we'd have me, one healer, someone with the drift ability, and someone who can manipulate one of the elements. That seems like the most balanced team. But then, to be realistic, I need to think about who might actually say yes, not to mention which of those people I actually think are competent and could get along with.
Haha, well I think there's a bigger goal but... mostly we just do as our Master says. That's what we were summoned for, after all.
[lightly, with a little shrug. sometimes you don't question free will,
though at the explanation, he laughs a little.]
Shen-san said that? She's funny - I hope she changes her mind though, since it sounds like she'll need one. But I think that's a good line-up of options! There's a lot of Drift and Healing abilities, right? So hopefully it's not hard to find teammates there.
I guess you could pick based on who you like the most...? Or who you think would have a good dynamic with the rest of the team. Squabbling definitely makes stuff harder.
Yeah. Not to mention, there's forty people in the list, so if she decides not to team up with anyone, there's going to be three people who are also out of luck.
[nodding to herself]
That's a good place to start... Though I get the feeling it's mostly going to depend on who says yes and who has other plans. But either way - thanks for your help. It's nice to have a sounding board.
Mm, I wouldn't say that. We get a lot of freedom when we're not on missions. We just finished up a whole play for fun! There's just some stuff we gotta obey.
[easy-going, but he's always easy-going. but at the rest of the explanation, he nods along easily enough]
I don't think she'd want to hurt anybody... well, there's still time. Hopefully she'll be able to figure it out.
But hey - no problem. [he grins, just as cheery] I don't know how much help I really was, but I like listening to you too. I'll always be around if you need anything.
Haha, more the latter than the former. Gou no Yoshihiro has a number of works, and Matsui and I are two of 'em. My history is tied with his, though, in a way that it isn't with other swords.
So I guess it's easier for me to be next to him - or maybe that's where I want to be, more often than not.
[a little too quick, a little too heated, but she seems to realize that after a second and untenses her fingers from where they've started to dig into her shirt sleeves.]
[it's both too quick and too heated, but aside from buzen's brows raising minutely, he doesn't seem to mind all that much. instead he shakes his head before lowering it slightly]
No, I asked an insensitive question. It's my fault - sorry.
You don't need to apologize for having strong feelings on something like that... it just makes sense.

[she's curious, before she goes on]

How about making a list?
no subject
[thoughtful]
Right. All I can do is try my best. [...] A list wouldn't hurt. Maybe pros and cons, too.
no subject
[he doesn’t have too many qualms about it! but he nods along at that, grinning]
Yeah! So who’re you thinking for your team? You could just ask ‘em in order of who’s got the most pros and least cons, right?
[he is. such a simpleton.]

[bites her lip, but then gives him a little smile.]
Yeah. Good luck with - well, you said your friend is picking out teammates for you, but good luck with that.

Thanks. I've trusted Matsu with my life - well, I guess now my existence - for a long time. I'm sure he'll take care of it well.

[sincere]
I hope you get to stay there.

But hey - I'm happy that I at least get to spend my time here getting to know people like you, too.

While I do expect that to happen to me at some point, it's nice to have a little more time anyway.

[even if it's clear from her tone that isn't her take on it.]

You don't sound like you agree, though... I'd rather hear your actual thoughts, more than anything else.

he tilts his head at that, curious]
Mm... leaving on bad terms? [a beat] Well, we don't have to talk about it if it feels too close to home or anything...
But if that's weighing on you too, I wouldn't want you to carry it alone...

[a little too quick, a little too heated, but she seems to realize that after a second and untenses her fingers from where they've started to dig into her shirt sleeves.]
—Sorry, it's just - complicated.

You were just trying to help, right? So it's fine.
no subject
[but he's just clearly trying to add some levity back to the conversation, so he shakes his head a moment later]
You're kind for letting me off the hook. How about we get a snack and call it? Do you have a favorite type of food?

Anything that's not prepackaged, I guess.
